The goal of a librarian is to help people gain knowledge. Among its many services, the Library Department offers the Library Technician Program, which teaches the core skills and competencies today鈥檚 librarians need to help people access the vast resources at their disposal. Students learn library essentials such as acquisitions, cataloging, circulation, public access catalogs, and techniques of information retrieval from the internet and other related search systems and technology.

Reading, writing, speaking and listening are about the exchange of ideas, needs, hopes and dreams. All of these skills are forms of communication essential to professional and personal success. The Communications Studies Department teaches students to develop and hone these skills. The department offers courses in public speaking, interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, small group interaction, leadership, oral interpretation, and argumentation and debate.

From the stars above to the layers below, the Physical Science Department teaches aspiring scientists about the Earth and its properties. The department offers programs in astronomy, chemistry, environmental science, geography, geology, and physics. Through lectures, labs and field studies, students study the cosmos, the nature of matter, how humans affect the natural world, geographical landscapes, the building blocks of rocks and minerals, and energy and motion.
