CalWORKs

CalWORKs (California Work Opportunity and Responsibility for Kids) is the state鈥檚 welfare-to-work program for families with children. The 海角社区 CalWORKs Program works in collaboration with the Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) to assist students with education, training and job skills. 

Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) is a state funded community college program that provides 鈥渙ver and above鈥 services to 海角社区 students from social, economic, educational or language disadvantaged backgrounds. The program supports enrollment, retention, transfer of students, and helps facilitate the successful completion of their educational goals.

Foster Youth Support Services

The Foster Youth Support Services Program at 海角社区 is dedicated to supporting current and former foster youth students to provide a smooth transition into college. Our team is committed to creating a caring, equitable, and inclusive community where all foster youth can attain their educational, career, and personal goals. We aim to provide a 鈥淥ne-Stop-Shop鈥 that offers personalized assistance with educational goals by offering holistic services such as academic counseling, personal support, book grants, and referrals to 海角社区and community resources.

Foster Care & Kinship Education

The Foster & Kinship Care Education Program is a statewide program funded by the California Community College Chancellor鈥檚 Office, providing a variety of training programs for foster parents (parent education), and specialized training for relative caregivers. 海角社区 works with many agencies and programs to provide resources and support for current and transition-age youth and resource families.

The 海角社区 Growth and Opportunities (GO) Project is a Student Support Services Project funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The GO Project is designed to increase the number of students with disabilities who transfer to four-year colleges and universities. The GO Project is a comprehensive program of academic support and personal development services for low-income, first-generation college, and disabled students to achieve retention and graduation rates that exceed that of the general student body.

The Upward Bound Program provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The goal of the 海角社区 TRiO Upward Bound Program is to prepare high school students from the Long Beach Unified School District area as they enroll in and successfully complete a post-secondary education program. The Program accomplishes this objective by enhancing participants鈥 academic skills, personal motivation and confidence, needed to succeed in college.
