New Student Checklist

NEW STUDENT STEPS

STEP 1: Apply to 海角社区

Complete the to apply for admission at LBCC. You may apply for the Summer/Fall or Winter/Spring terms. Be prepared with the following information before starting the application:

  • Personal Email Address
  • If you are:
    • U.S. Citizens -> Social Security #
    • Permanent Residents -> Alien Registration #
    • Undocumented/Dreamer -> No required documents
  • Knowledge of highest-level Math & English course & grade completed
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Go to www.lbcc.edu, click on 鈥淨uicklinks,鈥 & select 鈥淎pply Now.鈥
  2. Click 鈥淐reate an Account鈥 if you鈥檝e never attended a CA Community College. To create an OpenCCC Account, enter a valid email or phone number. You will receive a 6-digit security code.
  3. If you have an account, click 鈥淪ign In.鈥 If you can鈥檛 access your account, click on 鈥淔orgot Password鈥 and complete the necessary steps.
  4. If you are creating an account, enter your personal information in Steps 1-3 to create a profile.
  1. Click 鈥淪tart a New Application.鈥
  2. Important Section Information:
    • Under Education, select 鈥淔irst Time College Student.鈥 This includes dual enrollment students.
    • Under Residency, if DACA eligible, DO NOT enter your SSN OR TPIN. Check off 鈥淣o Documents.鈥
  3. Complete all nine sections of the application. Click 鈥淐ontinue鈥 as you go.
  4. Click 鈥淩eview My Applications鈥 to review your responses.
  5. Check consent boxes to submit application.

Congratulations! You are now a Viking. Within 24-72 hours, your Viking ID# will be sent to you via email.

HOW TO Apply to LBCC?

STEP 2: Apply for Financial Aid

To receive financial support, we recommend that you apply for Financial Aid.

  • If you are a US Citizen or Permanent Resident, complete the .
  • If you are not a US Citizen or permanent resident but meet AB 540 criteria, you may be eligible for the .

To ensure 海角社区receives your financial aid application, make sure to list 海角社区as one of your schools, our code is 001219. After submitting either application, check your email for confirmation of completion. Log into your Viking Student System and Financial Aid account to verify submission. If you need assistance, please visit LBCC鈥檚 Financial Aid.

STEP 3: Create your Viking Student Login

Once you鈥檝e applied to 海角社区 and have received your Viking Student ID #, you can create your Viking Student Portal and password.

  1. Go to www.lbcc.edu, click on 鈥淨uicklinks,鈥 & select 鈥淰iking Student Login.鈥
  2. Click on 鈥淣ew/Forgotten Password鈥 to begin creating your portal.
  3. Insert your Viking ID Number (7-digit number that begins with 0 or 1).
  4. A 鈥淥ne Time Passcode鈥 will be sent to you via email or text. Insert code once received and click 鈥淐ontinue.鈥
  5. Create your Viking Student Portal password and be sure to follow the password requirements.

You did it! Once you鈥檝e created your password, follow Step 1 to access the Viking Student Portal. You can now login with your Viking ID # and password.

STEP 4: Complete the 海角社区Online Orientation

The orientation is a mandatory requirement for all new students that provides an introduction to LBCC. The orientation must be completed via desktop or laptop & is only compatible with Chrome or Firefox. At any time, you can save and continue your answers another time. You must complete the orientation before meeting with a counselor and registering for classes.

  1. Go to www.lbcc.edu, click on 鈥淨uicklinks,鈥 & select 鈥淰iking Student Login.鈥
  2. Enter your 海角社区Viking ID number & Password.
  3. Click the 鈥淪tudent Service鈥 box.
  4. Click on 鈥淢y Orientation鈥 & select 鈥淣ew Student Orientation.鈥
  5. Read the Overview & click 鈥淣EXT鈥 on the bottom right corner.
  6. Complete all sections of the orientation. Students must pass the final quiz with 80% or more to earn credit. Within 24 hours of completing the final quiz, your orientation task will be marked complete.

STEP 5: Complete Participation Agreement for Long Beach College Promise or Viking Advantage

Once you鈥檝e applied to 海角社区and created your Viking Student Portal, you will need to complete the online participation agreement for Long Beach College Promise or Viking Advantage. This is required for you to receive priority registration, free tuition, & a transfer pathway.

  1. Go to www.lbcc.edu, click on 鈥淨uicklinks,鈥 & select 鈥淰iking Student Login.鈥
  2. Enter your 海角社区Viking ID number & Password.
  3. Click the 鈥淪tudent Service鈥 box.
  4. Click 鈥淢y Participation Agreements.鈥
  5. Select one of the following: 鈥淟BCP Agreement鈥 or 鈥淰iking Advantage Agreement.鈥
  6. Review & submit the agreement.

STEP 6: Complete the Guided Placement Tool

All students are required to complete the online Guided Placement Tool at least 24-hours before meeting with a counselor. This is a course placement survey to help counselors know what English, Reading, & Math you placed into at the college level.

  1. Go to www.lbcc.edu, click on 鈥淨uicklinks,鈥 & select 鈥淰iking Student Login.鈥
  2. Enter your 海角社区Viking ID number & Password.
  3. Click the 鈥淪tudent Service鈥 box.
  4. Click 鈥淢y Participation Agreements.鈥
  5. Click on 鈥淕uided Placement Tool鈥 & respond to all the questions.
  6. Your placement results will be available under 鈥淢y Placement Results鈥 within 24-hours.

STEP 7: Meet with a Counselor

Drop-in Counseling with the 海角社区Welcome Center is on a first come, first serve basis. There will be varying wait times and counseling availability is subject to change. If you do not see any available appointments, please check back the next day.

  1. Visit Welcome Center.
  2. Click the red box titled 鈥淲elcome Center Counselors.鈥
  3. Enter your 海角社区Viking ID number & Birth Date (xx/xx/xxxx). Checkmark the 鈥淚nformed Consent Statement鈥 and click 鈥淪ign In.鈥
  4. Click the blue button titled 鈥淒rop-In.鈥
  5. Enter the reason for your appointment, appointment type, & contact information. Click 鈥淐ontinue鈥 to book appointment.
  6. Remain in the waiting room until a counselor connects with you.

HOW TO Schedule a Welcome Center Counseling Appointment

STEP 8: Register for Classes

Now that you鈥檝e met with a counselor and completed your Ed Plan (Degree Planner), you can register for classes during your registration date & time. The earlier you register for classes, the more available classes you will find.

  1. Go to www.lbcc.edu, click on 鈥淨uicklinks,鈥 & select 鈥淰iking Student Login.鈥
  2. Enter your 海角社区Viking ID number & Password.
  3. Click on the 鈥淩egistration & Schedule鈥 box.
  4. Click 鈥淏uild Schedule鈥 & then 鈥淐lass Search and Enroll.鈥
  5. Select Term (ex. Fall 2023).
  6. Enter course SUBJECT & NUMBER from your Ed Plan (ex. COUNS 48)
  7. Review course options including days, times, and location.
  8. Click on the desired course.
  9. Go through a 4-Step confirmation process.
  10. Continue by selecting 鈥淎ccept.鈥 If applicable, enter your class Permission # (given by professor).
  11. On step 3 of 4, select 鈥淓nroll鈥 and click 鈥淣ext.鈥
  12. Confirm Enrollment.

STEP 9: Pay your Student Fees

After completing the online registration, students can pay for their student fees through their Viking Student Portal. Students are required to pay for their account balance prior to the due date to avoid being dropped from classes. Students can also pay for student fees in-person at the Cashier鈥檚 Office: LAC (A-1081) or PCC (GG-101).

  1. Go to www.lbcc.edu, click on 鈥淨uicklinks,鈥 & select 鈥淰iking Student Login.鈥
  2. Enter your 海角社区Viking ID number & Password.
  3. Click the 鈥淪tudent Account鈥 box.
  4. Click 鈥淢ake a Payment鈥 & click 鈥淐ontinue to Nelnet.鈥
  5. You can select 鈥淢ake a Payment鈥 or 鈥淪et up a Payment Plan.鈥

STEP 10: Purchase Course Textbooks

The 海角社区Bookstore sells and rents new and used textbooks for students to utilize during the semester for their registered courses.

  1. Visit .
  2. Click the tab 鈥淐ourse Materials & Textbooks鈥 & select 鈥淔ind Course Materials.鈥
  3. Choose your campus. Enter the course term, dept, number, & section.
  4. Select if you would like to rent or buy the textbooks.
  5. Click 鈥淧roceed to Checkout.鈥
  6. Select how you would like to receive the order.
  7. Enter payment method (ex. Debit/Credit, Financial Aid, etc.)

How to View your Educational Plan (Degree Planner)

An Education Plan (also known as Degree Planner) outlines the courses you should take in order to reach your educational goal. If you created an Educational Plan with a counselor, you may view it online in your Viking Student System. If needed, meet with a counselor to update/change your Ed Plan.

  1. Go to www.lbcc.edu, click on 鈥淨uicklinks,鈥 & select 鈥淰iking Student Login.鈥
  2. Enter your 海角社区Viking ID number & Password.
  3. Click on 鈥淩egistration & Schedule.鈥
  4. Click 鈥淏uild Schedule鈥 & then select 鈥淢y Ed Plan (Degree Planner).鈥
  5. You will be redirected to a page titled 鈥淲elcome to Degree Planner.鈥 Read the overview & click 鈥淐ontinue.鈥
  6. Review your courses by semester.

How to View your Registration Appointment

  1. Go to www.lbcc.edu, click on 鈥淨uicklinks,鈥 & select 鈥淰iking Student Login.鈥
  2. Enter your 海角社区Viking ID number & Password.
  3. Click on 鈥淩egistration & Schedule.鈥
  4. On the bottom of the main page, you can find the date & time under the subtitle 鈥淩egistration Appointments for Current Students.鈥

How to Add a Class with an Add Code/Permission Number

Students who are on the waitlist for a class or are trying to add a class after the semester has begun, may need to use an add code/permission number.

  1. Go to www.lbcc.edu, click on 鈥淨uicklinks,鈥 & select 鈥淰iking Student Login.鈥
  2. Enter your 海角社区Viking ID number & Password.
  3. Click on 鈥淩egistration & Schedule.鈥
  4. Click 鈥淏uild Schedule鈥 & then 鈥淎dd By Class Number.鈥 Select Term (i.e. Fall 2023) & enter your 5-digit class number.
  5. Click on 鈥淪hopping Cart鈥 & select 鈥淐hange Preferences.鈥
  6. Enter your permission number given by a professor. Click save & enroll.

How to View your Course Schedule

After completing the online course registration, students can view their course schedule for the semester in their Viking Student System. Be sure to review the Enrollment Deadlines to be aware of any important dates.

  1. Go to www.lbcc.edu, click on 鈥淨uicklinks,鈥 & select 鈥淰iking Student Login.鈥
  2. Enter your 海角社区Viking ID number & Password.
  3. Click on 鈥淩egistration & Schedule.鈥
  4. Click 鈥淰iew Schedule.鈥
  5. Click 鈥淲eekly Schedule鈥 to view your schedule as a visual format.
  6. Click 鈥淰iew Classes鈥 to see your enrolled, waitlisted, and dropped classes. Students can also see the unit count of their courses under 鈥淯nits.鈥

How to Access your Courses on Canvas

After completing the online course registration, students can access their course shelf 48-72 hours before the start of the semester. Professors are responsible for launching their Canvas course. Any questions can be directed to them.

  1. Go to www.lbcc.edu & click on 鈥淰iking Portal鈥 on the top-left hand corner.
  2. Enter your 海角社区Viking ID number & Password.
  3. Click on the tab titled 鈥淐anvas.鈥
  4. When your course has been published, accept the course invitation. All your classes can be found on the 鈥淒ashboard鈥 tile.

How to Drop a Class from your Schedule

  1. Go to www.lbcc.edu, click on 鈥淨uicklinks,鈥 & select 鈥淰iking Student Login.鈥
  2. Enter your 海角社区Viking ID number & Password.
  3. Click on 鈥淩egistration & Schedule.鈥
  4. Click 鈥淯pdate Schedule鈥 & then select 鈥淒rop Class.鈥
  5. Select the course/es you want to drop & click 鈥淣ext.鈥
  6. Click the blue button 鈥淒rop Classes鈥 & confirm that you would like to be dropped from the course.
