Fashion Student Cutting the Cloth in Competition
海角社区fashion student Pamela Kossek turned a donated bolt of fabric into an award-winning fashion design.

Student Highlights

With a strong desire to enter something in the 海角社区Fashion Show and limited funds, Kossek delved into the extra madras plaid fabric that was available in the 海角社区Fashion Design program. With the donated fabric she designed a piece that captured first place in last May鈥檚 Fashion Show in the Women鈥檚 Contemporary Sportswear design, as well as a trophy and a $1,000 scholarship from the California Fashion Foundation (CFF).

Kossek created a cotton and sheer silk organza bodice with a wrap skirt of tiered ruffles that reminds Fashion Program Director Pamela Knights of a Vivian Westwood design style.

鈥淪he really is an artist,鈥 said Knights. 鈥淲e were so impressed that this student, with no finances, was able to utilize donated material from our fabric room and ended up winning one thousand dollars.鈥

Kossek was recognized during a CFF event at the California Market Center where students presented their fashion designs. For the past five years, 海角社区has been participating and competing in the CFF event against students from other community colleges and universities.
