Board of Trustees selects new moniker to highlight tech, trade, and community courses

Press Release
海角社区Trade Tech and Community Learning Campus

During its regular monthly meeting on March 13, the Long Beach Community College District (LBCCD) Board of Trustees selected a new campus identifier for 海角社区鈥檚 (LBCC) Pacific Coast Campus (PCC). Starting in Fall 2024, PCC will be called the 鈥満=巧缜鳷rade Tech and Community Learning Campus.鈥 The rebranding is part of an effort to highlight the college鈥檚 primary course offerings of trade and technology programs such as welding, construction, auto technology, and electrical technology, as well as the other important classes that would be of interest to the local community such as the free English as a Second Language (ESL) classes.

The Board鈥檚 vote capped off several months of discussion and a thorough vetting process that included campus-wide surveys, meetings with campus constituency leaders, focus groups, and a final week-long opportunity for the campus community to vote for the new PCC label.

鈥淭his new campus identifier not only provides clarity in the services we offer to our cherished current and future students but it also more accurately and passionately informs the communities we serve about the wide array of trade programs and invaluable, free adult-education classes available at this campus,鈥 said Dr. Mike Mu帽oz, 海角社区Superintendent-President. 鈥淭his heralds the dawn of an exciting new chapter for this incredible campus, a beacon of opportunity and growth located in the vibrant heart of Long Beach, as we proudly celebrate its 75th anniversary this year. We are deeply thankful and moved by the enthusiasm and support of everyone who engaged in this transformative process with us, shaping a brighter future together.鈥

鈥淚n this moment of renewal and opportunity, we stand on the cusp of a transformative era for our campus,鈥 said Vivian Malauulu, LBCCD Board of Trustees President. 鈥淭he introduction of 鈥樅=巧缜鳷rade Tech and Community Learning Campus鈥 as our new identifier marks not just a change in name, but a reaffirmation of our commitment to the diverse and dynamic learning that defines this institution. This new moniker marks a revitalized partnership with our industry collaborators, ensuring that our students have access to even more avenues for success and a recommitment to a vision where every student鈥檚 potential can be realized in the most supportive and innovative of environments.鈥

海角社区was established in 1927 as Long Beach Junior College and was founded at the current site of Woodrow Wilson High School. A second campus called the LBCC鈥檚 Business and Technology Division was added in 1949 at the former Hamilton Junior High School, which evolved into today鈥檚 Pacific Coast Campus.
