海角社区Trustee Vivian Malauulu Elected to Prestigious Community College National Organization

Press Release
Vivian Malauulu

At the annual Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Leadership Congress meeting last week, Long Beach Community College District (LBCCD) Board of Trustees Member Vivian Malauulu was elected to the ACCT Board of Directors. She received the largest number of votes out of all the candidates. The Director-at-Large position is a three-year term.

鈥淐ongratulations to Trustee Malauulu on her election to the ACCT Board,鈥 said LBCCD Board of Trustees President Uduak-Joe Ntuk. 鈥淪he provides dynamic leadership for both the College District and the residents of the Trustee Area she represents. I know she will apply that same amount of passion and commitment as an ACCT Director-at-Large.鈥

The ACCT represents more than 6,500 elected and appointed trustees who govern more than 1,100 community colleges throughout the United States. In 2020, Malauulu became the first LBCCD Trustee to receive the ACCT 2020 Pacific Regional Trustee Leadership Award in recognition of her contributions as a trustee.

鈥淚鈥檓 honored and humbled to be elected by my peers who represent hundreds of community colleges across the country,鈥 said Malauulu. 鈥淲e share one common goal to educate and prepare our students to become successful taxpayers and our work in diversity, equity, and inclusion at 海角社区serves as a great model to be replicated nationwide. My passion has always been to put the 鈥榗ommunity鈥 back in community college. I represent one of the most diverse working-class areas in Long Beach, and I鈥檝e pushed for increased visibility and communication with the residents of my area through a variety of progressive initiatives. I hope to utilize that same passion鈥痑nd drive as I serve on the ACCT Board of Directors.鈥

In 2016, Malauulu became the first Latina elected to the LBCCD Board of Trustees. She served as Vice President of the Board from 2018-2019, and was elected as Board President in July 2019. She represents Area 2 which includes West Long Beach and south-central parts of Long Beach.

鈥淲e are so proud that Trustee Malauulu will represent Long Beach City College on this national platform,鈥 said LBCCD Interim Superintendent-President Dr. Mike Mu帽oz. 鈥淚 know that she will do an amazing job sharing all of LBCC鈥檚 experiences with the ACCT leadership 鈥 from our 2020 Seal of Excelencia recognition to the equity work we have done for years that led to our recent $30 million gift from MacKenzie Scott.鈥
